Shannon Leeann Dill, now well-known as DaphoDILL, is an African-American artist from Hattiesburg, Mississippi. DaphoDILL has been making headlines, as she tells the story of, how she came to be one with music. DaphoDILL started writing poetry at a very young age, that then transformed into music. DaphoDILL put words to writing, writing to poetry, and poetry into music. DaphoDILL explored many different forms of writing styles; as well as, many different genres and sub-genres of music. Getting inspiration from various artist, like Missy Elliot, Erykah Badu, Nicki Minaj, Juice Wrld, and even rock bands, such as Hinder. Even exploring global artist like Halsey. The music from these artist inspired DaphoDILL, to create the compositions that many enjoy.
DaphoDILL often talks about drug and alcohol addiction; as well as, mental health depictions, love, and pain from dealing with life on life’s terms. DaphoDILL describes addiction as, people wanting to escape from reality, to form their own experiences, of dealing with it. As she says, “Addiction comes from the avoidance, of not accepting the reality, of which we pitted ourselves against and in, as we see ourselves, in a society and culture, different from what is expected by others, and their own points of view, as is gets tainted in insecurities, by ourselves and others.” This being a very different view from what we see from artist today.
DaphoDILL has made various arrangements in her compositions. From singles like “All Facts ft. Zaytoven”, “I’m Rolling Jimmy”, “G.A.B. HIGH”, “GERONIMO”, “Black Shades and Blue Colors”, “Paper Planes”, “Gas Light”, “Misplaced A Misses”, “InsaneAsylum”, “Pink Nitrous”, “To Be Honest”, and albums “Anomalous”, and “My Suicide Letter”. DaphoDILL is said to release a new single this 2025 year. A single titled, “Put That In The Press”, where she talks about the political stance she has taken, against the American Government; as well as, album title, “The Awakening”, where she embodies, different aspects on life, love, politics, culture, history, and society norms.
DaphoDILL is said to become a lawyer and or a judge one day, with even adjustments in her life, to take on the world of Psychology. Philosophy being her rooted groundwork, as Psychology forming the different basis of it. She says, “Psychology is the avoidance of every individual, based off of their own implicit bias; as it relates to, culture, race, gender, age, sexuality, religion, etc. Psychology, playing a big role in political views, and systems like the legal system, healthcare, armed forces, and mental health systems. It formulates, the basis by which, someone’s behavior, cultivates the environment around them. DaphoDILL making note of how she perceives the world, as it shapes her music style and form.
DaphoDILL often talks about being in the armed forces. Serving from March 22, 2015 to March 2, 2024. Enlisting in the United States Army and participating in The State of Mississippi’s service, where she joined. DaphoDILL dealt with not only sexual assault in the armed forces, but bullying, extreme unchecked racism, sexual harassment, ostracism, isolation, and extreme prejudice while she served. Even several attempts of career sabotage by those she served with. All these things ignored by her comrades and command. This formulated a lof of DaphoDILL’s music. She expressed a different type of art, because of it. She describes being ignored, and pushed to the side, most of her career, while those serving with her facilitated most of the anguish she dealt with, where there was no accountability taken or responsibility they took, for things that were facilitated to happen to her, and her only; DaphoDILL, being an African-American, LGBTQIA+ community member. DaphoDILL plans to see motion to political action and change, in the future, for the defetion of “racism”, in not only Mississippi, but the United States itself. DaphoDILL is a very headstrong woman, with the potential to change the dynamics of the world.
