These works of art from Shannon Dill, became the cornerstone of poems she wrote, about living, and not knowing how to live, given the worldly view on social dynamics and behavior, and how an individual can perceive them, based off of foreknowledge, little knowledge, gossip, interference from an outside source, and a persons owned lives experiences, that they cannot more readily see, and how they picture it, in their dreams, thoughts, reality, and sense of commonality and consciousness.
Shannon Dill’s works of her art are not only breathtaking, but it defines a different type of artwork, that many can’t fathom themselves. Shannon took her poems, and put them to sounds. Within those sounds, we hear a vast amount of range and tempo, that gives listeners, the absolute urge, to think, dream, relate, and even counter how they feel about the words that move through their ears, without knowing what “DaphoDILL” is exposing in the sense of love, light, emotional intelligence, intellect ability, self worth, self love, self respect, self care, and the the demise that leads to it all. DaphoDILL says, “To create, you must first have the idea, to formulate the idea, you must have perspective. Within that perspective, you must have experience, within experience, you must have both empathy, and lack thereof. This because, in order to experience, you must see the details in growing and developing; as well as, the outcomes of not having the growth or capacity to develop.”
She goes on to say, “When a writer writes, they must think. When a writer thinks, they have had experienced it. When the writer develops, the writer must choose between reality and dream, or the essence of writing in both. How to be able to make a reader listen to the words, dive inside your mind, catch the flow of the wording, and take a vow in the depiction of what is being said, as its provocateur incites the readers imagination and reality thereof.”
“To be a poet, is to be a writer; To be a writer, is to be confused”. This famous written quote by “DaphoDILL” on her book titles, “Colors of Blue, Shades of Black”, as it depicts different imagery, on the self-designed front cover. The imagery on Shannon Leeann Dill’s book cover, shows the collaboration between, having mountains to climb, while maintaining one’s on sanity, between the ugly-truth of love and hate; while also, showing the depiction of birds flying south to get away, for survival, as humans move within their life for survival methods; and as the birds move north for abundance, as human love around in the like form. The insertion of hands on the bottom of the page, shows the reach one has to take, to be able to reach love, light, abundance, fame, and better outcome and outsource of life; as it complements the nature of Shannon Dill’s quote.
The quote, “To be a poet, it to be a writer; To be a writer, is to be confused”, by Shannon Dill, shows the true nature of writing in its purest form, raw, real, lived, chaotic, emotional, layered, and not linear. As the world tries to minimize and invalidate, individual’s voices. A writers truth, is not always clean, but can be messy, personal, overwhelming, and even in show the imagination of how a writer, wanted the story to be told. Furthermore, it depicts writing, to be full of contradictions; as a writer will pathologize their own experiences, especially when writing about trauma, injustice, identity, and the burdens they carry, as they unpack it with words. This is seemingly to, how writers question their own thoughts, memories, and place in the world, and still choosing to write.” “When I created these poems, these books, the music, readers and listeners listen and look at on a daily basis, I did not just make it readable on surface level thinking, but I took it to a level of wanting a reader and listener to think more.
Every line could be a depiction of something else, every word is imagery of a story told, as you keep reading and listening, the words written began to form its own thoughts, as different readers and listeners have different perspectives and understandings, of what they see and read with their own thoughts, emotions, desires, feelings, and mind. This correlates to a first impression on what they first hear, without knowing the story, and even knowing the story, without knowing the thought process. It takes an analytical approach and form, when a reader or listener does not know the context or entire meaning; as well as, even if the author and composer, can’t readily identify their works, in the moment. You go into thinking about, how their memories can be suppressed and tampered with; as well as, when writers write they sometimes can’t remember the full capacity of their words. I sought beyond the human realm, but rather into the world of science, as it transcends past human life and worldly view.”
To continue, DaphoDILL started doing music, at a very young. She started learning how to play different instruments, instruments we see artist and musicians, use and play today. As she learned these instruments, she started to make her own beats, with little knowledge on how to create them, other than putting one and two together like most. DaphoDILL often speaks about her music talent. She says, “Everyone has some kind of talent. Your talent maybe singing, your talent maybe drawing, your talent maybe dancing, your talent maybe writing, but how are you going to turn that talent into art?” She goes on to say, “When thinking of talent, you want to perfect that talent as much as possible, because the person to your left and to your right, that weren’t given that talent, is going to do just that. They’re going to work above and beyond to perfect it. At some point you have to realize, how can I make this talent better? How can I make this talent different? How can I make this talent that was given to me beautiful? I started doing just that with my music. I started doing that with my writing. I’m not here to only benefit myself, but also others, too. I have a gift for sounds. I have a gift for words. I have a gift to write. In that writing, and in the music; I create art, and make it as beautiful as possible for readers and listeners.”
